Alexis was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week to promote “The Handmaid’s Tale”. She also talked about “Gilmore Girls” and told Jimmy that she and her Sisterhood co-stars just pitched “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3”
Blake Lively (Bridget in “The Sisterhood” movies) sat down for an interview where, among other things, she discussed the possibility of a third “Sisterhood” movie. She talks about the third movie around the 3:10 minute mark.
Alexis did a beautiful photoshoot for Nylon as well as an interview earlier this year. She talks about “Jenny’s Wedding”, “Gilmore Girls” and the third “Sisterhood” movie among other things.
Alexis Bledel is having quite the summer. On top of the release of her new movie Jenny’s Wedding, where she plays the free-spirited girlfriend to Katherine Heigl’s Jenny, she recently made über fans super happy with her Gilmore Girls reunion down at the ATX Festival. On top of all that, she maybe-not-so-accidentally leaked the fact that her Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants may be reuniting for a new movie. (Yay! Yaaay!)
When we spoke with her, she had tons of ideas for a totally stylish, vibrant shoot. The actor has truly come into her own, both embracing and releasing her past as the titular Gilmore girl—and reflecting on her own marriage (especially in light of Jenny’s Wedding), her career, and what she wants next out of life.
So, tell us about Jenny’s Wedding.
This film is about a woman who has to come out to her family because she wants to get married. She’s lived with her ‘friend’ for a long time. They were roommates, so her family just thinks that they are roommates. And her family’s ultra-conservative, so she has to tell them more about her life. And they each have their own unique reaction to her news that she wants to celebrate. Her family has to go through their own process of understanding who she is, I guess, in a new way, because they had other ideas about the person they thought they knew. But my character was fun to play. She doesn’t come from a conservative family, so I think she’s really comfortable with who she is. She’s not having to face the same challenges. She’s just kind of there for her partner and excited to get married.
Sisterhood fans, rejoice!
Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera more than hinted at there being a third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movie at Friday night’s New York City launch of Ferrera’s husband Ryan Piers Williams’s art exhibit, “Monsters and Landscapes.”
“It’s actually very much in the works,” Ferrera, 30, told PEOPLE. “There’s a fifth book, and what’s wonderful about it is, and the series to begin with, is that it’s really raw and honest about friendship and how hard it can be and how it changes as you grow up.”
She adds, “We love each other, and we love this series, and we are so proud of the work that we did together that it would be wonderful to come back at do another one.”
The two actresses both said that a third film would be inspired by Sisterhood Everlasting, the fifth book in novelist Ann Brashares young-adult series – although when it came to the fate of her character, the only thing Tamblyn would preview is, “I think in the spirit of the magical pants that there is something magical brewing.”
THR is reporting that a third movie of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is in the works. While there is no word yet on whether Alexis or any of her co-stars are set to return this is, of course, very exciting news!
Alloy Entertainment is developing Sisterhood Everlasting, a follow-up to the previous two films based on the popular YA books.
Ken Kwapis, who directed the original film in 2005, will return to direct, with Liz Garcia (The Lifeguard) writing the script. Les Morgenstein, president of Alloy Entertainment, and Elysa Dutton, vice president of Alloy Features, will produce along with Christine Sacani.
Sisterhood Everlasting, written by Ann Brashares, was released in March 2012. The story picks up with the four girls 10 years later, as they’ve grown apart, busy with their own adult lives. Tibby tries to bridge the distance in Sisterhood Everlasting by reuniting the girls for a trip that will change their lives forever.
Alloy, along with Alcon Entertainment, was responsible for the first two Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants films, which starred Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn. The first film was released in 2005 and earned $42 million worldwide, and the sequel followed in 2008, earning $44.4 million worldwide.
Warner Bros. distributed the first two films. This third film is moving forward without a distributor officially attached at this time.
“The Sisterhood series is one of Alloy’s most cherished properties and we are looking forward to continuing its legacy with Sisterhood Everlasting nearly a decade after the first film was released,” said Morgenstein. “The original film brought together an incredible group of talent who we hope to unite for fans once again.”
Kwapis, whose film credits include He’s Just Not That Into You, is repped by UTA, Rick Berg of Code Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. Garcia is repped by CAA, Madhouse Entertainment and McKuin Frankel.
